Fall Practice Schedule

The Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) has moved the volleyball season to the spring, but it is allowing 12 practices in the fall for volleyball teams.  The practices must take place between Sept. 12 and Oct. 2.

AVHS volleyball will be having practices four days a week for the first three weeks of school.  Mondays and Fridays will be speed and strength training from 3-3:30/3:45pm, and Tuesdays and Thursdays will be on a net 3:30-5pm.  No practices on Wednesdays.

These practices are intended to hone your volleyball skills and increase your strength and stamina.  They are not a tryout for the spring season.  These are not required practices and will have no bearing on whether you make a team in the spring.
We recognize that not everyone is at school every day with the hybrid schedule.  The hybrid school day ends at 1:40pm.  You can leave the school and come back for practice, or stay in the cafeteria where you will have a socially-distanced work station to work on schoolwork while wearing a mask.  If you do not have school on a practice day, you can come to school no earlier than 15 minutes before the start of practice.  The locker rooms will be open for quick changes only.  No belongings are to be kept in the locker room and we will keep our belongings with us in the gym/weight room.  The training room will be open and limited to a CDC-recommended capacity of six athletes at a time.
We also recognize that some student-athletes have elected to do distance learning.  We will have safety measures in place for these fall practices like we had at summer camp, which include maintaining social distance as much as possible, working in pods to limit contact, limiting the use of shared balls, sanitizing and washing hands often, sanitizing equipment, etc.  If you elect to not attend practice for Covid-related reasons, we appreciate that these are unusual times and understand your decision.
You will need to bring a water bottle, already filled and clearly labeled, as well as shoes for indoor and outdoor use.  It is possible we will spend some time on the outside nets, weather permitting.

If our hybrid schedule gets changed to distance learning for all students, then all athletic activity, including our practices, will be cancelled until we are back in hybrid.
The activity bus is available to give rides home at 5:15pm.  If you are having difficulty getting transportation to or from practice, please let me know and we will arrange rideshares.
I am excited to be back in the gym with you all.  Go Eagles!

MSHSL Volleyball Season Postponed

The MSHSL has postponed the volleyball season until the spring, March 15-May 15.   Tryouts will be held for volleyball in the spring at that time.   The MSHSL is allowing practices for volleyball during the fall.   More information about those practices will be coming as the district and the MNHSL release additional guidelines.
